These three summer online workshops will offer our Pathways Directors the chance to explore stimuli, research accompanying themes and build ideas for our proposed face-to-face masterclass intensive in Autumn.

Tim Etchell’s work has spanned 36 years with Forced Entertainment; as well as his independent work as a visual artist, writer and performance maker.

In these experimental workshop sessions on the themes of directing and devising theatre; Tim will explore strategies for developing, editing and directing performance material for theatre. He will lay out some key terms, concepts and approaches from his practice. The sessions will involve a number of creative exercises.

Our third summer masterclass with ALRA is titled The Director and the Performer(s) – creative relationships in space and time and will be lead by Kieran Sheehan, Vice Principal (Curriculum) at ALRA

About Kieran:

Kieran Sheehan is Vice Principal (Curriculum) at ALRA with responsibility for overseeing the academic vision, training and partnership development. He has taught within acting conservatories consistently for fifteen years and has co-constructed the validation of all of ALRA’s remarkable programmes that challenge the conventions of academic standards within the country.

Kieran is also a movement director, he began his career with a three month movement placement at the Royal Shakespeare Company which led to creative work at Glyndebourne Opera, Opera North, Birmingham Repertory Theatre, iceandfire, UpSwing as well as developing his own independent dance theatre work which was funded by Arts Council England. His work includes pioneering two year project for autistic young people with Opera North focusing on stillness and moving from the sensation created by images, and developing a two year authentic movement and music project delivered in care homes with adults who have PMLD for Access All Areas. Kieran recently worked with director Liz Stevenson on her regional tour of Lancastrians and animator Nataly Lebouleux on her cross art form piece exploring Gay Conversion Therapy.

He trained at London Contemporary Dance School, Guildford School of Acting and Central School of Speech and Drama. He is currently undertaking a professional doctorate entitled Witnessing the Professional Self through Movement and Imagination.
